HI all at waiheke one.. On behalf of the direct action group this morning at the refuse station, I have made an official complaint tot he ARC for TPI’s lack of responsibility to address our communities needs to safely and responsibly accept our toxic waste we wished to dump this morning.
I contacted ARC and spoke to a man called Evile, who assured me he would handle it, with his colleagues, and agreed that it was a bad situation if TPI wasn’t taking our toxic waste.
So an email was sent at 10.55am to him and he has said he will contact me as soon as possible on what was to happen as a result. I stressed that it was a dire and dangerous situation that our people could risk harm in trying to have this toxic waste accepted by TPI.
Dear Evile,
I am making a urgent complaint about the lack of response that the new contractors for the island, TPI, are giving us to our need to drop off toxic waste to the local Transfer station on Waiheke Island. Today is their first day of taking on the new contract to safely dispose of our toxic waste and to recycle our other waste, but it appears they are not doing their job. We have been waiting since 7.30 this morning to dump this toxic waste and they refuse to talk to us, open their gates, nor have they indicated publicly in the local media that the transfer station would be closed today. So we assumed they would be open from 7.30am.
About 9.30am they finally received a bag of recyclables from us, and we were assured they would actually recycle the glass and plastic, so we are under the understanding that TP I will actively follow through on that request. However they continue to ignore us on other recyclable waste. As I’m writing this, one of our people is standing on a shakey ladder in the wind and cold weather presently trying to get some sort of response from TPI workers to take our toxic waste, but sadly we are being ignored. This is a dire situation as we have no where else to dump this toxic waste, not to mention the extremely unsafe condition to which we have to gain access to TPI’s service. Should any of us have an accident or fall off our ladders then ARC will be responsible no doubt.
Please can you bring this to the attention of the appropriate authorities in your division and let me know what has been done to change this dilemma as soon as possible. We will continue to wait all day if it takes that to ensure they do their job properly.
